I think I’m right in saying that we Leeds fans can’t help compare the team performances this season with last year’s under Garry Monk.

Psychologically we all can’t help it. It’s how our brains work.

You can tell Leeds have more quality this season.

The game against Ipswich over the week-end is a perfect example.

The fear of not having Pontus Jansson in the team doesn’t send chills down the spine this season.

Conor Shaughnessy and Liam Cooper were chosen as the centre backs for this game, and I was not pessimistic.]

In fact Shaughnessy played a Pablo-type pass for Lasogga to score the first goal.

Mick McCarthy will be seething and probably will be kicking his cat a few times this week.

He knew that his team played well. Even we have to admit it. Best opponent we’ve seen at Elland Road? Probably.

However, Jansson is important to us this season.

Very important.

Last time we let in two goals was at Bolton Wanderers, and we didn’t have Jansson then either.

When the big Swede plays we don’t let goals in, especially the ones we conceded against Ipswich.

But we have quality.

That’s what got us over the line.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is quality. So is Kalvin Phillips. So is Pablo Hernandez. So is Samu Saiz, who should have got a couple of goals himself. So is Luke Ayling. I could go on.

The important thing to keep hold of is that we didn’t buckle against a very good team.
