With Leeds having a great start, and Aston Villa beginning to warm up, both will be looking to strengthen in January and Joey Barton seems to be on the radar of both sides.
Barton is expected to be released by Rangers soon, after a compensation package was agreed between Barton and Rangers.
This comes after a huge bust up with Andy Halliday, following their humiliating defeat at the hands of Celtic.
After a great season with Burnley last season, where he helped them win the title, he scooped the club’s player of they year award, in what was a superb season for the veteran midfielder.
Barton’s experience in the middle of the park could be the last piece of the jigsaw for Steve Bruce’s Villa side.
Villa are currently lacking in central midfield and with it being one of the most important areas, mainly where you win or lose games, Bruce will surely be keen to strengthen.
Villa are strong all over the pitch but bringing Barton in would add some grit and determination to a Villa midfield that is crying out for a player with Barton’s quality and drive to succeed.
Leeds should focus their efforts on signing Barton for slightly different reasons to Villa.
They still need the steel in midfield that Barton provides.
Garry Monk has quite a few options at his disposal in centre midfield but none are of the same quality of Barton.
His quality and experience is far superior to any Leeds player, which is why Leeds should go all out to acquire Barton’s services.
Leeds are in a relatively new position to both their manager, and most of their squad.
Barton is experienced in winning promotion after winning the league with Burnley last season – he can bring all his knowhow to a Leeds side that is relatively inexperienced.
