Sports media outlet ESPN FC today broke the news that Premier League trio Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Southampton are all interested in making a move for Norwich City forward Jacob Murphy.

Jacob Murphy predominantly operates as a winger but he offers an eye for goal and can also play as a striker.

The 21-year-old is hot property having scored seven goals and assisted a further four in nineteen games in all competitions thus far this season.

But I believe that Murphy would be better served remaining at Carrow Road rather than making a January switch to the Premier League.

This is because of how quickly he has burst onto the scene.

Murphy has had numerous loan spells with contrasting success over the past few years.

He spent the entirety of 2015/16 at League One Coventry and was fantastic for the majority.

Alongside Newcastle loanee Adam Armstrong, Jacob Murphy tore League One defences to shreds with terrorising runs, lethal finishing and dangerous crosses.

But there were also large chunks of the season where Murphy went unnoticed; turning in below average displays and transforming from an electric skillful winger into a timid wide man who couldn't beat a defender.

It is certainly true that Murphy blows hot and cold and he had a mediocre spell at Norwich this season after his phenomenal start to the season.

After scoring at the weekend, Murphy is likely to regain the confidence which will allow him to become a player again but he is very much all or nothing; brilliant when in form and shocking when he's low on confidence.

He was also seen as the less talented twin for a very long time, which was evidenced when Josh Murphy earned a Championship loan last season (at Milton Keynes) while Jacob had to drop down to League One.

He seems to have overtaken his brother for the meantime but this brotherly competition seems to be having a positive effect on Jacob's career and he should stick with Josh at Norwich.

Finally, why would he move when he is playing regularly every week for Norwich and the fans admire him?

If he goes to Tottenham, Everton or Southampton, his game time will decrease a lot and he will probably spend another period of time out on loan.

Does Murphy really want that at this stage of his career, having finally broken into a club which he can call his permanent home?

Therefore, Jacob Murphy should ignore the Premier League interest and continue to focus on helping Norwich win promotion back to the Premier League.
