There seems to be a refreshing trend taking place in English football at the moment.

Tom Nichols

We have become accustomed to big spending clubs dominating due to being able to attract the best players and spend whatever it takes to get to the top of the league.

However, this season in the Premier League we have seen Leicester and Spurs rise to the top with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater, Harry Kane and Dele Alli centre stage.

This would suggest that maybe we should be looking closer to home to find the next superstars, rather than always looking abroad.

It has been interesting this season to see players such as Vardy, Ighalo, Deeney, Albrighton, Morgan, Austin, Afobe, Ritchie, Daniels, Pugh, Hoolahan, Brady, Antonio, Cresswell etc etc etc all take the top flight in their strid.e after years of experience in the Football League.

Perhaps the difference between the Football League and the Premier League is minimising, as teams are able to hold on to their top players despite relegation.

One particular club in the Football League who have an impressive eye for talent is Peterborough.

They have a knack of consistently attracting young, exciting talent, developing their skills and then selling them on for a large profit.

Players such as Aaron McClean, Britt Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle, Conor Washington, Mackail-Smith, Lee Tomlin, Paul Taylor and Ryan Bennett have moved on for a profit - good going for a team spending the majority of its time in the lower echelons of the Championship or League One.

Their newest recruit is Tom Nichols. He signed for Peterborough from Exeter for an undisclosed fee on the 1st Feb 2016, and scored on his debut.

There is plenty of excitement surrounding the 22-year-old, with Peterborough fans hoping they have found the next Vardy or Alli.

The reason they should be excited is Nichols demonstrates a prolific goalscoring career so far.

He scored his first professional goal for Exeter at the age of 17, the day before his 18th birthday vs Chesterfield.

Nichols went on to score 77 goals in 98 games for Exeter City and has an impressive record of 101 goals in 131 career games in total so far.

Tom Nichols is a youngster all the big clubs will have their eye on, especially since Vardy and Alli have proven there are still plenty of home grown bargains to be found.

If Nichols continues to showcase his talents for Peterborough then surely if wont be long before a big club comes knocking on their door, yet again!
