Having struggled for goals in recent seasons, Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor got his year off to the perfect start, with the opener in Saturday evening’s draw with recently relegated Hull City.

The 30-year-old striker who has been with the Villains his whole career, and his 7th minute goal appeared to put Villa on the way to their first win of the season, before they were pegged back in the second half by Jarrod Bowen’s first Tigers goal.

Agbonlahor has received much criticism in the last couple of years, and many felt disappointed that the former England striker failed to build upon the excellent form he showed early in his career.

With almost 100 Villa goals to his name however, the Birmingham born striker has been a success story of English football, and not many players in this day and age can claim to have been with their boyhood club their entire career.

However, it appears some may be getting carried away by the forward’s solid start, with former Villa striker Dion Dublin claiming that the player can score 20/25 goals ‘easily’ this season.

Like me, you probably just laughed.

With the money being bandied around for forward’s in this division, the odds on Agbonlahor to finish top of the goalscoring pile can be found at as high as 100/1.

To be fair to Agbonlahor and Dublin, the player has already matched the tally he reached in each of the last two seasons in just a single game this year.

There are 45 more games for Agbonlahor to find a further 19 goals to match the prediction made by Dublin, and Villa are a vastly improved side from the team that took to the field last year.

However, it seems nothing but mere fantasy that this will be achieved.

If Agbonlahor gets twenty goals this season, I will offer my apologies and congratulate him on a wonderful season in the second tier.

If he gets more than 25, I’ll pack up and move to Siberia.

Who do you think will be your top scorer this year, Villa fans?
