Huddersfield Town currently find themselves battling for a Championship play-off spot, with promotion to the Premier League remaining a genuine possibility.

The Terriers entered the international break losing their last two games, following an unbeaten start to the calendar year, with the two-week break perhaps coming at the right time.

With promotion to England's top-tier still achievable, it does complicate things when looking ahead to summer recruitment.

However, one player who looks like they would be able to meet the demands in both divisions is Zulte Waregem central defender Cameron Humphreys.

Product of the Manchester City academy, the 23-year-old embarked on a new adventure in 2019, swapping Englands' north-west for Belgium.

Huddersfield have been credited with an interest in the young defender, as per a report from the Mail Online, with the Terriers set to battle the likes of Blackburn, Rovers, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest for his services.

Appearing 26 times in Belgium's Pro League this season, with 23 of those coming in the form of starts, Humphreys has been an integral part of the club's season as they continue to try and avoid the drop to the country's second tier.

Humphreys is someone who would appear to be ready for the rigours of Championship football, and should the Terriers win promotion to the top-flight, then he is someone who may take some time to adapt, but still a player who could make the step up to the Premier League.

Possessing athleticism and great defensive intelligence, the young defender is also very good on the ball, helping to progress play with a good range of passing and confidence when bringing the ball out.

Huddersfield have been defensively resilient this season, but with Levi Colwill likely to continue his progression in the top-tier, Humpreys could be viewed as an excellent alternative.

Given the named clubs that are already in pursuit, and the fact that the Mail Online report suggested that several other clubs are also interested, it may be a difficult deal for the Yorkshire club to complete.

However, Humphreys is someone who could bolster their defensive options next season and has the potential to grow with the ambitions of the club.
