Leicester City are interested in striking a summer move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, according to a report from The Sun.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are also believed to be in the race to secure his services but with the shot-stopper signing a new long-term contract last summer, both would need to fork out a hefty fee if they want to have any chance of luring him to the Stadium of Light.

His impressive performances have been important to Tony Mowbray's side this season with understudy Alex Bass not exactly having a huge amount of Championship experience under his belt - and with this in mind - the Wearside outfit may be able to generate up to £10m for his services.

That potential price may increase between now and the end of the season, so Leicester and Wolves could potentially be looking to pursue a potential swap deal to lower the amount they will need to fork out to secure the 22-year-old.

With Jose Sa unlikely to be sold and Daniel Bentley not exactly the most attractive option for the Black Cats, Wolves may need to offer an outfield player to Mowbray's side if they want to secure a swap deal.

There's a perfect goalkeeping candidate who could come in from Leicester though - and that's Daniel Iversen with the Dane impressing in the second tier in the past for Preston North End.

Considering many shot-stoppers are able to have longer-lasting careers than outfield players, Iversen could be an excellent long-term addition at the Stadium of Light considering he's only 25 at this stage.

He isn't one of the first names on the teamsheet at the King Power Stadium either with Danny Ward ahead of him in the pecking order, so Brendan Rodgers' side may be willing to sanction this deal.

Although Iversen has the opportunity to secure top-flight football under Rodgers, he will want to be playing every week at his age and he would get the opportunity to do this on Wearside if Patterson heads the other way.

Mowbray's men should still be looking to secure a decent fee on top of the potential arrival of Iversen if they want to secure this type of agreement - but the Foxes' interest could give them a great opportunity to secure a former target.

Not only do the Black Cats need to think about Patterson's potential successor's suitability for their current level - but they also need to assess whether they would be ready to ply their trade in the Premier League with the club seemingly on the up.

And Iversen has shown enough to potentially suggest that he could take the step up if required, with the player already training with Premier League players every week.
