Coventry City have used the loan market in recent years to fill the void at left wing-back, with the Sky Blues enjoying two seasons of having Sam McCallum at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with Ian Maatsen spending this campaign with them.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Coventry's chances of keeping the young wing-back for an additional season have been dealt a huge blow, with German giants Borussia Dortmund closing in on the exciting 20-year-old.

Winning the Championship club's Young Player of the Season award, and appearing 41 times in the league for the Sky Blues, Maatsen has emerged as an integral figure under Mark Robins this season.

Possessing bundles of energy, great ball progression abilities and excellent final product, Maatsen has seriously impressed the Coventry faithful this season, with the young defender also proving to have the necessary defensive capabilities.

With a Maatsen return looking increasingly unlikely, one player that the Sky Blues could cast their eyes over, with a permanent deal in mind, is Royale Union Saint-Gilloise wing-back Matthew Sorinola.

The 21-year-old, who has featured 14 times for the Belgian outfit who finished top of the pile in the normal season, has seen most of his game time from the bench.

Sorinola headed for Union SG in the summer, following a successful year with MK Dons in League One, with the 21-year-old appearing 34 times under Russell Martin.

Martin's new club Swansea City are now in pursuit of the exciting wing-back, as per a Football League World exclusive, with the young manager believing he can cut it at Championship level.

Possessing excellent technical ability, and a knack for creating in the final third, whilst being a difficult opponent to get past, Sorinola is someone who has an incredibly high ceiling and could represent a shrewd bit of business by the Sky Blues.

It is likely that more clubs will be alerted to the potential availability of Sorinola, following Swansea's initial interest, with Coventry appearing to be a destination that could really help him flourish.

The success that young wing-backs like the aforementioned duo of McCallum and Maatsen is also an indicator of the kind of progression that Sorinola could expect to see.
