York City are not in a good position in Sky Bet League Two, sitting just one place above the relegation zone, and are on a woeful run of form.

New manager Jackie McNamara will be hoping to drag his York side away from the drop zone

Really, the only thing keeping the Minstermen out of the League Two relegation places is that there are two teams poorer than them.

But how long will that last?

The way they have played this year, York do not deserve to stay in the Football League. They've been that bad.

At the moment they are surviving, but are walking a tightrope, relying heavily on draws to save them. They've had six draws already this season, only Portsmouth (7) have had more.

They have picked up no wins in their last 10 games, drawing five and losing five. In that time, they've netted 12 goals, which is a decent return for a side near the bottom of the table, yet they've conceded 19, and not kept one clean sheet.

It is pretty clear what the main issue is at this present time.

This poor run of form has left York only one defeat away from slipping into the bottom two, and with the genuine threat of falling out of the Football League.

York may have an escape route however.

They have recently brought in a new manager, Jackie McNamara. The new boss will hope to implement his philosophy onto the players as soon as possible in the hope they can pick up more points than previous manager Russ Wilcox did.

McNamara took charge of his first game as York boss against Accrington Stanley in the first round of the FA Cup yesterday, losing 3-2 to their fellow League Two outfit.

Once again, the defence are leaking goals, and this is something the new manager is going to have to address quickly if his side are to remain in the Football League.

It is going to be tough for York to survive.

They are in a perilous position, but if McNamara can solidify the backline and inspire the team to a few victories in the next few games, York could see themselves moving away from the dreaded position they currently find themselves in.

The new manager effect is certainly needed at Bootham Crescent.
