Opinion: Birmingham City – Ones to watch

One to Keep an Eye On: Demarai Gray

19 year-old England youth International winger Gray burst on to the scene last season and impressed manager Gary Rowett and fans alike with his sheer pace.

Gray is one of Birmingham's most prized assets

Gray is one of Birmingham’s most prized assets

He was the subject of a £5 million bid from newly-promoted Bournemouth in January but the club held firm and he was rewarded for his performances with a three-year contract which he signed in July.

His dribbling ability will surely have plenty of opposition defences in trouble in the upcoming season.

Key Man: Clayton Donaldson

Donaldson arrived from Brentford last summer with high expectations, and did not disappoint, winning the Supporters’ player of the season in his inaugural season at the club.

His physical presence makes him a challenge for any defensive unit and resulted in him scoring 15 goals last season. He became a firm fans favourite and will be looking to kick on even further in the forthcoming campaign.

Star Signing: Maikel Kieftenbeld

Kiefentenbeld arrived from Dutch Side Groningen for a fee of £180,000. He comes with a good reputation as a defensively minded midfielder and was the captain at his previous club. With no previous English experience, it will be interesting to see how he adapts to a different style of Football.
