This week it was revealed that Sheffield United are very interested in bringing in Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, according to the Sun

The Blades are reportedly willing to pay the former Brentford man £35k-a-week in order to complete a loan deal before the end of the summer.

But with Jonathan Kodjia the only other senior forward at the club, selling Hogan would be a very rash and very stupid move, especially to a Championship rival.

Why?

Hogan has had a tricky time of it over the last season, but his record in the Championship remains an excellent one.

The 26-year-old has scored 28 goals in 83 appearances in the division and it is ludicrous to think that he will have lost that touch and that talent so suddenly.

He may have only scored six times last season, but 15 goals the season before, with the bulk of those coming for a weaker Brentford side, shows the talent he has to perform at this level.

Avoid the rivals

It may sound a bit petty to say Villa should not loan a player out just because he is going to a league rival, but that is exactly what I am saying here.

It is likely that Sheffield United will be around Steve Bruce's men come the end of the season, with both sides hoping to make the cut for the top-six.

So why would you rid yourself of such a useful weapon and give it straight to one of your rivals? It makes no sense.

Steve Bruce must begin to play him. Jonathan Kodjia is a terrific striker, but Hogan should be given a chance to shine when he's fully fit, then he will be able to show how good he is at this level.

He would be one hell of a signing for the Blades, but Villa must ensure they do not get him.
