Reading manager Steve Clarke has made survival in the Championship his top priority and with just ten matches to go we look into what it will take for the Royals to keep their League status.

Will the Royals escape relegation?
Will the Royals escape relegation?

Tuesday’s night 2-1 win over rivals Brighton and Hove Albion placed the Royals in 16th place with 44 points, just 13 points above Wigan and Millwall who currently occupy the last two relegation spots.

On paper the Royals will have to win six of their ten games remaining to confirm definite safety (keeping in mind if the Relegation teams win all their remaining matches).

From those ten, four of those teams are currently in the top half of the league. Away days at Watford and Derby County alongside home ties against Brentford and high flying Bournemouth.

In theory if the Royals were to replicate their first half season performances they would only gain six points from a possible 30 (as seen below) definitely relegation form.

Watford : 0-1 Loss

Birmingham : 6-1 Loss

Charlton : 0-1 Loss

Cardiff : 2-1 Loss

Blackpool : 3-0 Win

Blackburn : 3-1 Loss

Bournemouth : 0-3 Loss

Rotherham : 3-0 Win

Brentford : 3-1 Loss

Derby : 0-3 Loss

Steve Clarke's team will need to dig deep to pull out of what still looks like a tough job to secure league safety.

Since joining the Berkshire club, the Scotsman has had five wins and four draws from 15 League Matches, scoring 18 goals but conceding 20.

Come the end of another gruelling Championship season, can the Royals pick up some momentum in February after two draws and a much needed victory?

Will the magic and possibility of an FA cup semi-final tie at Wembley, will it help the Royals keep their neck above troubled waters?

For most fans the league cannot finish fast enough this season but by the looks of it there is still a long way to go. What do you think?
