Jaap Stam has rejuvenated Reading this season, and currently lay third in the Championship table.

Jaap Stam's possession football is clearly paying off, and Martin Allen went as far as comparing them to the passing masters of Barcelona.

Since the Dutchman's arrival from Ajax, he has completely changed Reading's style of play since taking over.

Ajax are known for a 'total football' approach, and now it is clearly working at Reading.

They currently boast the best possession statistics in the Championship, with WhoScored reporting that Reading keep the ball for 59.3 percent of games on average, that is a ten percent increase from the 2014/2015 season.

It seems that the Reading fans are finally taking to the style of football that has got them firing up the table this season.

It has to be said at first, the style of football looked bland, and there was no real intent to press the opposition but as the season has wore on, Reading have grown with confidence and as a result have won their last four league games.

In September, sections of the Reading faithful were booing at what Stam was trying to build at the club, as they were growing ever frustrated at the slow approach implemented by the Dutchman.

However, Reading have been superb in recent weeks, and people are raving about the style of football they play, which can be hard to pull off in such a competitive league.

Reading are now just outside the automatic promotion spots, a position fans could only dream about prior to the season starting.

They are currently just four points off second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, and gaining.

Stam has brought in a number of players to make the system work, and it is clearly paying off.

One of those being utility man Joey Van Den Berg - he is able to control possession and build from a deep-lying midfield role, which has been so effective for Reading this season.

He is able to dictate the play, and start all of the moves for Reading.

He's almost Reading's answer to Barcelona's Sergio Busquets.

Stam's exotic style is sending a dangerous message to the rest of the Championship but can they keep up their unbelievable form?

What do you think Reading fans? Are you excited about the rest of the season? Is Stam's exotic style of play going to fire you in to the Premier league?
