It is that time of the year again when football fans like myself are anxiously preparing for the start of the Football League season, and once again, it's shaping up to be yet another enthralling one.

Saturday August 6th. The day where dreams start and memories are created.

I for one will be making the long journey down the M5, a 325 mile round trip to Somerset to watch Notts County encounter Darren Way's Yeovil Town.

For some, this long, gruelling journey would be a chore, for some it would be a hobby, but for many, it's now become a way of life.

With the gigantic Newcastle United dropping down to the Championship, led by Rafa Benitez, Grimsby Town returning to the Football League, Burton Albion preparing for life for the first time in the Championship, as Aston Villa look to respond to relegation to the Premier League for the first time in their existence, in emphatic fashion, the Football League never fails to disappoint.

Added with the hotly debated EFL Trophy, the next 10 months will be exhilarating for the 72 teams, ending in May, culminating in devastation or euphoria.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey, identifies the THREE reasons as to why this EFL season, will quite simply be the best ever.....

Transfers

From takeovers to tantrums, this summer transfer window has been another eye-opening one.

We've seen the Chinese consortium take over Wolves, and seen their influx of money see the Midlands outfit linked with the likes of international pedigree Anderson Talisca from Benfica, for a supposed fee of £20million.

Crawley Town have recruited 16 new players, as Dermot Drummy looks to lead the Red Devils to promotion this term.

And of course, last year's stars are being recognised, Oxford United's hotshot Kemar Roofe for one, has joined Garry Monk's revolution at Elland Road.

Barnsley have took Tom Bradshaw and George Moncur away from Walsall and Colchester up to the Championship with them, and Portsmouth have once again stole the headlines with some phenomenal signings for the basement league, Carl Baker, Milan Lalković.

And as price tags get higher, the excitement builds. It will be an interesting one this year.

Unpredictability

Last year, the world of football bought into the belief that impossible, is nothing.

Leicester City, blitzing the Premier League, and making history.

Accrington Stanley, compounded in team spirit and passion, coming agonisingly close to promotion from League Two.

Burton Albion, defying the odds once again, promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.

And nobody would expect the giants of the top tier, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, to drop down to the second tier.

The sole reason we all love the beautiful game, unpredictability. Heartbreak, anger, euphoria, 3 points. Once again this year, it will be another rollercoaster of a season which I for one cannot wait for.

The fans

Say no more, the most important part of the game.

The people who travel in their numbers on a cold Tuesday night, dispose their income on their team in the hope of 3 points, break down on the M1 to watch their team in a play off semi final, the ones who watch from abroad, the ones who drink Bovril in a sellout local derby, that's what the Football League is all about.

So at 8:30am on Saturday, when I will departing for Huish Park, praying of nothing but sunshine on a open top terrace as well as 3 points, they'll be 100,000's of others setting off, in the hope of a promotion, or a title winning campaign.

You can take your 64 to Accrington on a Tuesday night, 700 to Walsall, 6000 to MK Dons on a Saturday, you can sell out your away allocation at Luton, but at the end of the day, the fans make the Football League what it is today.

When Carlisle took 3000 to Deepdale after the tragedy of the floods, that just sums up what it's all about. And of course, the local derbies. What greater feeling in the world could there be other than a last minute winner away at your local rivals?

So for the next 10 months, I will be accustomed to the 'Everywhere We Go' and 'Since I Was Young' and 'We've got Graham Carey' and 'Will Grigg's on Fire' chants, but I couldn't care less at all.

This EFL season will be phenomenal, good luck to everyone.
