Steve Bruce has made it no secret that he wishes to bring in a new goalkeeper this January.

This comes after Jed Steer suffered a season-ending injury and Mark Bunn also picked up a knock leaving 21-year-old Pierluigi Gollini as the only senior stopper on their books.

Add to this the speculation surrounding Gollini's future and the need for a new goalkeeper has reached desperation.

Bruce probably can't wait for January to roll around so that he can get a new 'keeper through the door and he will undoubtedly be working around the clock to get something all but tied up before the window re-opens.

There have been three main names that repeatedly pop up when people talk about Aston Villa's goalkeeping targets.

Here I will look at each of the 3 and assess the pros and cons of bringing them to Villa Park.

Sam Johnstone

Widespread reports are claiming that Aston Villa want Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan.

The 23-year-old has plenty of experience after multiple loan spells and would be unfazed by joining a new club after doing it so many times before.

Lots of clubs are after the former England youth international, who Mourinho rates highly, so Villa will have to move fast to land him.

Vito Mannone

Recent reports suggested that Villa were interested in a loan swoop for Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone.

The Italian shot stopper has dropped behind Jordan Pickford and Mika in the pecking order for the Black Cats.

Mannone would add experience, having played a lot of top flight football in England but he is prone to the occasional error, which has cost him his place in various sides during his career.

Eldin Jakupovic

Aston Villa have also been linked with a swoop for Hull City goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, who has lost his place as first choice goalkeeper for some reason despite an impressive start to the season.

Steve Bruce previously worked with the Swiss stopper and knows that he can turn in some match-winning displays with his excellent agility and athleticism between the sticks.

There are still question marks over his commanding of his box but he would still be a very good addition.
