Aston Villa were extremely busy towards the back end of the January transfer window with 7 new players arriving in the final two weeks of the month.

There were also plenty of players shipped out as Steve Bruce looked to reshuffle his squad and start putting his own personal stamp on this team.

Despite sitting in the bottom half of the Championship and being well adrift of the play-off zone, Aston Villa is a very attractive option for players.

You have the pull of the big club, a fantastic Premier League quality stadium, large fan base and it is a club with a rich history.

This allowed them to bring in players of top flight standard.

Among the arrivals was Neil Taylor, who joined on deadline day from Swansea City, with Jordan Ayew going the other way.

The Wales international arrived to boost Bruce's defensive options.

Here are 2 pros and 2 cons to Taylor's signing.

CON: Loss of form

Neil Taylor has managed just 11 Premier League matches this season due to a loss of form.

The January arrival of Martin Olsson put him further down the pecking order.

The Welshman now moves to Aston Villa trying to recapture some form and confidence, which is not ideal for Bruce as he needs a quick fix.

PRO: Class is permanent

Even though Taylor is having an off season, there is no doubting that he is a good player.

Taylor has been a regular for Swansea in the top flight for quite a while now and with some more regular playing time, he could rediscover his talent.

The Championship is the perfect place for him to build up some confidence again and get back to the level he was at last season.

CON: Will he start?

One could argue a reasonable case that Jordan Amavi is Aston Villa's best player.

Only one man can start at left back and Villa fans would not be happy if Frenchman Amavi is dropped for a new signing.

Taylor might struggle to break into this Villa side as much as he did for Swansea.

PRO: Experience

Neil Taylor brings vital experience to the table for Aston Villa.

The 37-times-capped Wales international (who also featured 5 times for Great Britain in the Olympics) turns 28 next month and has a load of games under his belt at the top level.

Taylor has over 150 appearances for Swansea, including 131 in the Premier League and he also turned out over 50 times for Wrexham before moving to South Wales.
