‘Onwards and upwards,’ ‘Big season ahead’ – Derby County fans react to latest update

As is the same ahead of every season at the Pride Park Stadium, Derby County will be hopeful of challenging for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship next year, with the hope they can return to the Premier League.

The 2016/17 campaign was a disappointing one for the Rams, with Nigel Pearson and Steve McClaren both failing to inspire a promotion push, before Gary Rowett was eventually handed control in March.

Rowett oversaw the last nine fixtures of the Championship season, which included four victories, three draws and two defeats.

This summer Rowett will be hopeful of moulding his squad into promotion contenders, making a number of transfers that will hopefully inspire the Rams to improve on their ninth-placed finish last season.

Rowett and Derby are already putting their plans in place for next season, with the club announcing that no senior players would be leaving the Rams on a free this summer and reiterating that Darren Bent and Chris Baird would both have their contracts extended.

Julien De Sart, who was on-loan from Middlesbrough, will be returning to his parent-club and Alefe Santos and Tom Mellors from the under 23s will also be leaving Derby.

Matt Yates and Joe Bateman have also moved into Derby’s under 23s from the under 18s.

Following Derby announcing their retained list, here is how supporters reacted…
