A number of Barnsley supporters have been urging midfielder Alex Mowatt to commit his future to the club following his inclusion in the Championship Team of the Season.

Mowatt has been an outstanding performer for the Tykes throughout the campaign in the Championship and has managed to fire in eight goals and seven assists in his 43 league appearances. That has seen him play a pivotal role in helping the Tykes reach the play-offs, and he could yet be key to helping take them to the Premier League.

His performances have been good enough to earn him the recognition of being named in the division’s Team of the Season. He is the Tykes’ only representative in the side, which is harsh on some of their other key performers. However, it shows just how much of a strong influence he has had on their push for the play-offs that he has made it into the team.

Mowatt remains out of contract with the club heading into the summer and unless he signs a new deal he will be heading for the exit door at Oakwell. It has been reported that contract talks between himself and the club have been side lined while they concentrated on their battle to earn promotion to the Premier League.
