Newport have had a solid few seasons in League Two, having narrowly missed out on promotion to the third tier on a number of occasions.

In the last three seasons, they've lost out in the play-offs twice and County fans will be hoping that the next time they manage to break into the top seven, they can finally secure passage into League One.

In 2020/21, they finished fifth and looked strong contenders to go up, only to lose out in the final. Before that, they finished seventh and lost at the final hurdle again.

Michael Flynn has worked wonders at the club to be able to take the Exiles so high up in the league but after a relatively shaky start to the current season, the long-standing manager decided to part ways with the side.

It means that Newport are currently without a manager - but they'll be eager to put a more permanent person in place soon so that they can kick on and try and make it third time lucky in terms of their bid for promotion.

The squad is still fairly strong and there are still some faces in there from the side that managed to break into the top seven in the fourth tier - and if they can build up another good run, then they could certainly repeat the feat of last season again.
