Jack Grealish is still looking to leave Aston Villa this summer, despite Tottenham seeing their efforts to sign the midfielder rejected earlier today.

Spurs had launched a £25m bid to sign Grealish from Villa, however, it has emerged today that Villa’s new owners are not willing to depart with the 22-year-old, who is so influential within Steve Bruce’s squad.

According to Sky Sports, Grealish is still keen to make the move this summer, with the midfielder wanting to play for Mauricio Pochettino and test himself at the highest level of the English game.

The 22-year-old has been with Villa since his academy days, going on to play in the Premier League and Championship for the club.

Last year, the midfielder was influential for Bruce’s squad, particularly post-Christmas, as Villa went in search of promotion after two years in the Championship.

Grealish scored three goals and registered a further six assists last season, helping his boyhood club to fourth in the table.

Bruce’s side reached the play-off final but were unable to secure a Premier League return.

Villa started their third consecutive year in the Championship on Monday, beating Hull City 3-1.

The Verdict

Supporters were delighted this morning when reports suggested that Villa would be keeping hold of Grealish, but this will feel like a blow.

It’s not difficult to understand Grealish’s stance, though.

He has been in the Championship for two years now, but needs to be playing Premier League football now.

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction from Villa’s supporters.
