A disappointing campaign for Wolves this season sees them sitting in 21st place, just a point and a place outside of the relegation zone.

After the arrival of Paul Lambert, many were expecting the Scottish manager to help Wolves begin to steadily climb back up the table.

Lambert will be hoping that he can first ensure Wolves safety in the division before making plans and preparing for next season.

The former Aston Villa and Norwich City manager will be hoping he can use the summer to make his own signings and shape the squad with his identity.

Although Wolves have the financial firepower to compete with anyone in the division, Lambert may turn to the lower league to bring in some bright young talent.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at THREE lower league stars Wolves must be keeping tabs on...

Leonardo Da Silva Lopes

Considering the Portuguese contingency at Wolves, one lower league star who could be attracting from Wolves is Peterborough midfielder Leonardo Da Silva Lopes.

After emerging from Peterborough's academy and making a total of ten appearances over the past two seasons, this season had been the 18-year-old central midfielder's breakthrough season.

Having made over 30 appearances for Peterborough this season, Da Silva Lopes has emerged as one of the brightest young talents in the Football League.

Although Da Silva Lopes has been linked with the Premier League, Wolves have proved that they have the financial clout to compete with Premier League sides.

As Da Silva Lopes continues to develop and mature,  the Portuguese midfielder is a lower league star Wolves must be keeping tabs on.

Ollie Watkins

One of the most talked about and highly rated Football League starlets is Exeter City's 21-year-old centre-forward Ollie Watkins.

This season, Ollie Watkins' performances have gone up a level. As well as continuing his fine goalscoring form from last season with thirteen goals, Watkins has also provided nine assists showing that he is more than just a natural goalscorer.

Watkins has played an integral role in Exeter City's success this season as they currently sit in the play-off places with an outside chance of automatic promotion.

Considering Wolves good track record picking up bright English talent from the lower leagues, Ollie Watkins could be on their radar as a lower league star that they must be keeping tabs on.

Lee Gregory

Compared to Ollie Watkins and Leonardo Da Silva Lopes, Lee Gregory is a completely different player to both in that, whereas, they have the talent and potential to become first team starters for Wolves, Gregory already is the finished product.

Over the past two seasons, the 28-year-old striker has scored 30 times for Millwall as he has played a big role in their push for promotion back to the Championship.

An issue that Paul Lambert must address in the summer is the lack of goals from Wolves' centre-forwards with both John Davi Bodvarsson and Nouha Dicko struggling for goals this season.

The arrival of Lee Gregory would allow Wolves to continue having a hard-working centre-forward, but also one who would have an eye for goal.

As a player who would come straight into Wolves' starting line-up as a goalscoring threat, Lee Gregory is a lower league star that Wolves must be keeping tabs on.
