Queens Park Rangers have endured a turbulent time in the Championship so far, with mid-table mediocrity looking the most possible final outcome for the London club.

Ian Holloway's men find themselves 16th in the standings, just 9 points off the relegation zone, and a very disappointing 18 points off the playoff places.

Recruitment has been a common problem for the R's over the last couple of years, and despite Holloway strengthening his squad in January, those new players don’t seem to have settled in yet, with just three wins out of seven following the closure of the window.

For a club in the Premier League just a couple of seasons ago, midtable is just not good enough for QPR, and maybe next year is the season where they can start looking up instead of looking over their shoulder.

With that being said, here, we take a look at THREE lower league players that could install fresh, new life into the R's, and maybe even galvanise a promotion push next season...

Conor Chaplin

The Portsmouth starlet is perhaps one of the brightest prospects in English football.

The 20-year old, who came through the youth ranks at Fratton Park, has netted an astonishing 17 times in 18 starting appearances for Pompey, with 49 of his other appearances coming off the bench.

Rangers have proved that delving into lower leagues to find fresh talent does come good, what with former Peterborough striker Conor Washington's form becoming more prolific, and Ian Holloway should definitely splash the cash on Chaplin in the summer.

Ben Stevenson

Another young player that has emerged as a real prospect is Coventry City's Ben Stevenson.

The midfielder, who also came through the youth academy, has been perhaps the only glimpse of hope for the Sky Blues, in what has been a dismal season for them on and off the pitch.

Relegation looks a certainty for the Midlands club, as they find themselves at the foot of the League One table, 13 points adrift of safety, and when the inevitable happens, the 19-year old should really look to move away from the Ricoh Arena, as he is just too good for that division.

Ollie Watkins

The Exeter City forward rounds off this list, after showing glimpses of real potential for the Grecians after an impressive couple of years.

The 21-year old has netted 18 goals in 50 appearances for the Devon club, and was reportedly subject to interest from Derby County and Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

His ability to play anywhere across the front line would be a key asset for the R's, and Holloway should really keep an eye on his progress...
