As Bristol City sit in 22nd place in the Championship, serious questions are being asked about if Lee Johnson's side will be one of the sides that finishes in the relegation places.

Lee Johnson will be hoping that Bristol City has enough quality to pull themselves out of the relegation zone and secure their Championship status.

Bristol City's recruitment policy has been multi-faceted which has seen a combination of signings from continental Europe and from the lower leagues.

One of Bristol City's marquee signings this season was a lower league star, significantly, it was Bristol Rovers' striker Matty Taylor as he made the intra-city switch.

Lee Johnson may turn to the lower league once again, as he looks to unearth hidden gems or offer the opportunity to established names to replicate their form at Championship level.

James Vaughan

After bursting onto the scene as Everton's youngest ever goalscorer in the Premier League, since then, Vaughan's career has been hindered by injury.

However, since dropping down from the Championship to League 1, James Vaughan has not only managed his fitness well but he has also proved to be an extremely prolific goalscorer at that level.

Already, James Vaughan has scored twenty times for Bury this season as the second highest goalscorer in the entire division behind only Sheffield United's Billy Sharp.

James Vaughan's prolific form and experience in the Championship will be attracting the attention of Championship sides in the summer.

Lee Johnson may feel that the former Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City striker would be a good fit for Bristol City.

As Bristol City prepare for life beyond Tammy Abraham,  James Vaughan is a lower league star Bristol City must be keeping tabs on.

Bradley Dack

Despite having some difficulties with injuries, one of the standout performers in League 1 over the past two seasons has been Gillingham midfielder, Bradley Dack.

After an excellent 2015-16 season, Bradley Dack earned the prestigious League One Player of the Season award, he was also named in the Football League Team of the Season.

Although Dack has had a less prolific season than last season, he is still acknowledged as one of the brightest talents in the Football League's lower leagues.

In the summer, if Bradley Dack is to leave Gillingham for the Championship, Bristol City must be keeping tabs on the lower league star.

Erhun Oztumer

Since joining Walsall from Peterborough United, Erhun Oztumer has been a revelation for the Saddlers as an advanced midfielder.

The versatile Turkish forward has played both as a centre attacking midfielder and also as unorthodox centre-forward this season for Walsall.

The versatility and prolificacy of Oztumer which has seen him score thirteen times and provided four assists this season.

Significantly, the Turkish midfielder has been drawing a lot of attention because of the calibre of the goals that he has scored for Walsall.

Oztumer has scored a number of spectacular long-range strikes this season. including most recently against Bolton Wanderers.

If Oztumer can continue to perform and impress, a number of Championship sides including Bristol City will be keeping tabs on the lower league star dubbed 'the Turkish Messi'.
