New Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill has wasted no time in getting back into the swing of things, as he looks to get the Reds' promotion push back on track.

The former Republic of Ireland manager has already made his first signing as Forest manager with Leicester City defender Yohan Benalouane arriving at the City Ground, with reports also claiming that the 66-year old wants to sign Stoke City winger James McClean.

Despite the departure of Aitor Karanka, the Reds still remain in a very promising position ahead of this week's clash with promotion rivals Bristol City - the East Midlands club currently sit ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points off the play-off places.

There is bound to be even more wheeling and dealing going on at the City Ground this window, and perhaps the area that Forest need strengthening the most is their goalkeeping options.

Costel Pantilimon has looked shaky on more than one occasion this season, whilst 34-year old Luke Steele has had to settle for a few cup appearances here and there.

Here, we take a look at why Forest should be signing former goalkeeper Karl Darlow, in order to add competition to the squad.

Darlow is no stranger to those at the City Ground - the shot-stopper made over 110 appearances for the Reds having emerged through the academy, and signed for the Magpies in 2014.

The 28-year old played an integral role in Newcastle's promotion-winning season from the Championship in 2016-17, however has since fallen out of favour at St. James' Park.

He has made just one appearance this season which came against Forest in the Carabao Cup, having fell behind Martin Dubravka in the pecking order.

Leeds United were linked with a move to sign the goalkeeper but have since signed Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid, and Forest should definitely look to pounce.
