Leeds United are closing in on securing the signing of Manchester City winger Ian Poveda.

The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday evening that United were close to securing the winger's services, with the former Brentford man out of contract at the Etihad at the end of the season.

United are on a poor run in the league having only won once in their last seven games, with some supporters crying out for signings this month to help see them back to winning ways.

The 19-year-old is set to be United's second signing of this January transfer window, following the arrival of goalkeeper Elia Caprile on Tuesday.

Marcelo Bielsa has been keen on bringing in another wide playing following the departure of Jack Clarke earlier this month, and it seems United could be on the verge of signing his replacement.

With the arrival of Poveda looking imminent we take a look at one winner and one loser as Leeds edge closer to completing this transfer...

Winner - Marcelo Bielsa

Marcelo Bielsa is currently operating with a paper-thin squad at the moment and is lacking options and depth on his bench.

The arrival of Poveda would offer Bielsa some extra creativity and the option to introduce a different dynamic to United's game.

Leeds have found themselves chasing a result in their last three league games and whilst they haven't struggled creating chances, they have managed just one point from a possible nine.

Poveda would help bring a bit of directness to Leeds' play and would allow Bielsa to rest up players such as Jack Harrison, who has played in every league game so far this term.

Loser - Jordan Stevens

19-year-old Stevens has featured on United's bench seven times for the Whites so far this term and has been used three times in the last six league games by Marcelo Bielsa.

Stevens is naturally a central midfielder and replaced Mateusz Klich in Saturday's defeat to QPR, and did also look threatening going wide for United.

Should the Poveda deal be tied up, Bielsa could be tempted to call on him rather than Stevens in order to add a more attacking threat to United's play if they find themselves chasing a game.

Stevens has impressed when he has featured and almost seemed to be pushing more out wide, but Bielsa would surely opt for Poveda if he wanted to bring on a wide player in the future.
