Middlesbrough have completed the signing of Duncan Watmore, with the versatile forward agreeing a deal at the Riverside until mid-January.

The 26-year-old has been without a club since leaving Sunderland in the summer but he has been training with Boro for the past month or so.

And, he impressed Neil Warnock. The experienced boss made no secret that he wanted to sign Watmore, particularly as the squad is desperately short on options in the final third, and it was finalised today.

A deal to bring Yannick Bolasie to Boro failed to materialise prior to the deadline shutting and an injury to Ashley Fletcher has presented Warnock with a few problems.

So, bringing in Watmore makes a lot of sense and here we look at ONE winner and ONE loser following the transfer...

Middlesbrough quiz: Can you name the club’s top goalscorer from the last 13 seasons?

Winner: Duncan Watmore

This isn't to say he doesn't deserve the move but it is a fantastic opportunity for the player.

He has just left a club that didn't win promotion from League One, so to link up with a squad that are hopeful of going up to the Premier League is great for the player.

This is Watmore's chance to show what he can do and if he impresses he could earn a longer deal and play a key role as Boro look to go up.

Loser: Patrick Roberts

The former Celtic man has already struggled to get game time, making just two appearances this season and he has been an unused sub in the last three.

So, Watmore's arrival just gives him another player to compete with for a spot in the XI.

Roberts certainly has the ability to force his way into the team but it's a battle that just got a bit harder for him.
