The January transfer window is quickly approaching and teams from all levels of the EFL will have begun targeting players.

Sunderland will be no different despite sitting in a strong position in the third tier of English football.

Jack Ross's side currently sit in third place in the League One table and just one point behind Peterborough United with a game in hand.

They have won their last four games and five of their last seven, not losing since the middle of September.

The Black Cats appear to have acquired their first target for the January window, two months in advance of it opening.

Exeter City's Jayden Stockley is the man linked with a move to the Stadium of Light after enjoying a good opening 16 games in League Two this season.

He has scored nine goals and assisted two more so far, making him one of the division's stand out players.

But, if he were to sign, who would be the big winner at Sunderland and who would be the loser?

Gooch has been terrific as an attacking midfielder this season.

Adding another option in the striking ranks would only give him more options to explore and can only see him benefitting from the addition.

Wyke has to be the loser here.

He has been very unlucky with injuries since arriving at the Stadium of Light and if Stockley hits the ground running will no doubt bump the former Bradford man even further down the pecking order.
