Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is looking to make a move for Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan, as he looks to add to his squad before the deadline.

Recent reports have suggested that the Blades will pay £35k-a-week to land the Ireland international, who has struggled since joining the West Midlands outfit from Brentford.

If the Yorkshire side do pay the huge wages Hogan is on, he will become the highest-paid player at Bramall Lane and will represent a major breakthrough for Wilder, who has been pushing for new signings all summer.

As for Hogan, he has fallen out of favour at Villa Park and whilst injuries have prevented him playing regularly at times, Steve Bruce isn't a major fan of the player.

The West Midlands side are also chasing Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham, and moving Hogan on would create room for his potential arrival, as well as reducing the wage bill to fund that move.

Here we look at one winner and one loser from this potential deal...

You would have to say this is a deal that looks like it would suit both clubs, however, another big winner would be the player himself.

Hogan was brilliant at Brentford, which saw him get a big move to Villa Park, but things haven't gone to plan since.

At just 26, he will feel he has a lot to offer and will be desperate to rediscover the form that saw him command a fee of around £12m.

He will be the main man for the Blades and will be given a platform and the confidence to thrive.

If Hogan does arrive, you can expect him to go straight into the first-team and Clarke could be the man to miss out, with Billy Sharp in good form.

The 33-year-old enjoyed a fine season in the previous campaign, but is yet to score in the first few games and has looked off the pace at times.

Regular football could be hard to come by for the former Wolves man if this deal goes through.
