Sunderland have hit a worrying winless spell in recent weeks, with Saturday's 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United their third in a row.

With Luton Town seeing off Peterborough United with ease at Kenilworth Road it meant the Black Cats dropped three points behind in the race for automatic promotion.

And it looks like Ross is ready to make a big transfer market statement in the form of Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg.

Grigg has a startling record when it comes to League One football, scoring 96 goals in 260 appearances across spells with Wigan, Walsall and MK Dons.

He may have only scored four Championship goals this campaign, but in his last two seasons in the division, he has scored 19 and 21 respectively so it is no surprise to see Ross chasing the Northern Irishman so relentlessly.

They are not exactly short of attacking options, but with the future of Josh Maja up in the air, it makes sense to bring in someone who can make an instant impact.

But who will be the big winner and who will lose out if the transfer goes through?

Lynden Gooch

The young attacking midfielder must be licking his lips at the prospect of having Will Grigg in his team.

It will do his stock no harm at all having such a prolific goalscorer to provide for and will no doubt see his assist stats rocket in the following months after his arrival.

Charlie Wyke

Wyke looked like being a clever signing in the summer having proven more than capable of scoring goals at League One level but it just has not worked out for him.

He has largely failed to grab his chances when they have arisen and if Grigg were to come in he would no doubt tumble down the pecking order.
