Having narrowly missed out on a play-off spot in the Championship last month, Bristol City could now face an uphill battle to keep hold of one of their star performers this summer.

According to The Sun, Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Adam Webster and may be about to lodge a £12m bid in an attempt to secure his services.

Utterly outstanding in the second-tier for the Robins last season, the defender was a commanding presence at the back and so manager Lee Johnson will understandably be reluctant to let the defender leave Ashton Gate.

However, with Villa offering Webster the chance to play Premier League football, he may struggle to turn down the opportunity to pit his wits against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero.

Here we look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Bristol City if the 24-year-old does move on to pastures new.

Winner: Nathan Baker

A mainstay in the Robins' starting lineup during the 2016/17 and 2017/18 campaigns, Nathan Baker was forced to watch on for vast sways of last season as Webster formed a fruitful partnership alongside loanee Tomas Kalas in the heart of defence for Johnson's side.

Although the 28-year-old did make 17 appearances in all competitions for City, the departure of the aforementioned duo this summer could result in him winning back his place in the first team.

If this is indeed the case, Baker will be confident that he can be an adequate replacement for Webster as he has shown on numerous occasions in the past, both for City as well as his former clubs, his wide array of defensive talents.

Loser: Max O'Leary

Having emerged as Johnson's first-choice keeper towards the back end of last season, the last thing that Max O'Leary will want is to see Webster depart from the club this summer as he has undoubtedly benefited from playing alongside the domineering defender.

By selling the former Ipswich Town ace to Villa, the Robins would be, albeit inadvertently, putting the development of the 22-year-old shot-stopper at risk as there is no guarantee that he will be able to replicate the same level of performance next year with new defenders in-front of him.

When you consider that Frank Fielding was allowed to leave last month, it is clear that City are placing a great deal of trust in O'Leary to produce the goods over the coming years and therefore a failure to do so could result in the club moving backwards.
