It was a tough evening for Leeds United in Swansea last night, with Marcelo Bielsa surely delighted to have left Wales with a valuable point in the bag following a 2-2 draw with Swansea City.
Liam Cooper withdrew from Leeds’ starting XI prior to kick-off, meaning that Bielsa was forced to play without a recognised centre-back against Oli McBurnie, who has been in good form so far this season for the Swans.
The lack of a centre-back proved to be a problem, with McBurnie scoring twice on the night, handing the Swans the lead on two separate occasions.
Leeds responded through Kemar Roofe at the end of the first-half, with the 25-year-old turning in Jamie Shackleton’s low cross for his fourth goal in as many games.
Pablo Hernandez then equalised at the end of the second-half, with Leeds leaving Wales with a point after a battling display against a much-improved Swansea side.
Here at FLW, we take a look at one winner and one loser from last night’s clash…
The Swansea City man led the line with real purpose, thriving against a makeshift Leeds defensive unit.
McBurnie’s first goal was a scruffy shot on target, but his second was pure class, with the striker rising between Leeds’ centre-backs and looping a header over Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
In front of the TV cameras, McBurnie looked class.
If he can keep that level of form up, he could spearhead a successful promotion push.
Phillips has been terrific for Leeds this season, but last night, the 22-year-old was all over the place.
Bersant Celina was running rings around the midfielder, who received a yellow card early in the contest.
Phillips then gave the ball away in the build-up to McBurnie’s first goal, with Bielsa quick to substitute his player inside half-an-hour.
It was a night to forget for Leeds’ academy graduate.
