Sheffield United suffered another bitterly disappointing defeat last night, losing out 2-1 to promotion rivals, West Bromwich Albion.

Chris Wilder’s side have now lost home games to Leeds United and West Brom in the space of two weeks, dealing their hopes of a Premier League return a real blow.

They did take the lead last night through David McGoldrick’s goal, but West Brom’s class told before half-time and Sheffield United struggled to find a second goal.

The classy Gareth Barry swept home shortly before the break and Kieran Gibbs’ late goal secured the points for Albion, who were inspired by an electric performance from Harvey Barnes.

It was another frustrating evening for Wilder and his side, with the festive fixtures now set to be crucial for the club’s chance of automatic promotion.

Following last night’s fixture, we start to analyse, identifying ONE winner and ONE loser within Wilder’s playing squad…

Sheffield United’s goalscorer was their biggest threat and took his first-half goal extremely well.

He’s looking like a really shrewd addition at Bramall Lane and is playing some great football.

Wilder will be pleased with what he’s seeing from the 31-year-old.

Sheffield United’s midfield unit really struggled yesterday, but defensively Egan looked poor.

It’s not what we’ve come to expect of the Irishman this season as he’s been good on the whole, but last night he struggled against an impressive West Brom attack.
