Sheffield United made a significant move ahead of the January transfer window today after confirming that Kieran Dowell would be joining on loan.

The Everton man has agreed to move to Bramall Lane from 2 January, and is seen as a smart bit of business from Chris Wilder as he looks to add to his squad.

Dowell, who has represented England at various youth levels, enjoyed a very successful loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season. He scored nine league goals for the Reds and made a big impact.

Despite that, he has spent the first half of the current campaign playing U23 football as he has failed to force his way into Marco Silva's plans at Goodison Park.

Therefore, it seems like a good move for all parties and here we look at one winner and one loser from this bit of business from the Blades...

You have to say the winner is Dowell.

The youngster has gone from not being involved in competitive football, to joining a good side that are pushing for promotion to the Premier League.

He got a taste of football at this level last season and thrived and he will be relishing the chance to get back out playing and showing how good he can be.

Wilder is pretty set on his formation, and you can understand why as it's brought plenty of success.

Therefore, he's not going to change now and it essentially means it's going to be difficult for Mark Duffy to get in the side alongside Dowell.

The experienced midfielder has been a fantastic player for the Blades and still will have a role to play, it just may be more restricted.
