Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in bringing the 27-year old to the City Ground in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Telegraph's John Percy.

Rothwell’s contract at Ewood Park is set to expire in June, which would make him a free agent signing if he did arrive at Forest.

Here, we take a look at one winner and one loser at Forest if they secure this transfer agreement.

Winner: Brennan Johnson

The forward has had a breakout season for Forest having become a crucial player in the side this campaign.

The 20-year old featured in all 46 of the Reds’ Championship games this season, starting 44 of them.

In that time, he scored 16 goals and earned 10 assists playing in Forest’s attack.

Having a player like Rothwell behind him would be a great boost for Steve Cooper’s side, particularly for his forwards.

The midfielder has seven league assists of his own and his creative link-up play could gel nicely with Johnson’s off the ball movement and positioning.

If these two could strike up a partnership for Forest then they could become quite a dangerous duo.

Loser: Braian Ojeda

With James Garner unlikely to return to the club following the conclusion of his loan spell at the City Ground, a midfield place could have opened up for Ojeda.

The Paraguayan moved to Forest last summer, but has only made three league appearances all season.

If Rothwell joined the club, then that will surely see the vacancy left by Garner be taken by the current Rovers player.

The 21-year old last played in a 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town in January, and his debut didn’t come until November of 2021.

The arrival of Rothwell could see Ojeda’s time with Forest come to an abrupt ending, and that they are seemingly in the market for that position doesn’t bode well for his future with the club.
