With the January transfer window looming, Nottingham Forest could be set to receive an approach for their most expensive signing Joao Carvalho.

Reports from Turkish media outlet Fotospor claim that the Portuguese midfielder has emerged as a transfer target for Trabzonspor, after scouts informed manager Unal Karaman of his quality.

Carvalho has divided opinions amongst the Forest faithful since arriving from Benfica for £13.2m last summer, and has since scored just six goals and registered just nine assists for the Reds.

In some games he produces a little bit of quality from nowhere, as displayed in the 4-0 win over Queens Park Rangers last week, but most would argue that he doesn't perform consistently enough.

Can you get 15 out of 15 on this Forest quiz?

With another three years left on his deal at the City Ground, you feel that Forest are firmly in the driving seat in this particular deal, with Trabzonspor reportedly looking to complete a swoop.

Here, though, we take at one winner and one loser at Forest if they let go of Carvalho in January...

Winner: Tiago Silva

Silva produced arguably his best performance in a Forest shirt so far in the 1-0 victory over bitter rivals Derby County last month, and is currently performing a lot better than his Portuguese compatriot.

The 26-year-old is a silky playmaker who is very techinical on the ball, but he is different to Carvalho in the sense that he also works hard in defence and isn't afraid to put a challenge in.

This season, in order to fit Carvalho into the game, Silva has been used slightly deeper as more of a holding midfielder, in order to let Carvalho play in his favoured number 10 position.

But if Carvalho were to leave, then that spot behind the striker would be Silva's to lose, and that's where he'd play for the rest of the season for sure.

Loser: Sabri Lamouchi

It could be a very risky move to let Carvalho leave in January, and one that could turn fans against him in some ways.

Forest fans love Carvalho, and they showed just how much support they have for the playmaker when he was completely frozen out by Martin O'Neill last term.

His performances aren't always there on a regular basis, but he has that little bit of quality where he can create something out of nothing and they could miss that when the chips are down.
