Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Derby County defender Lee Buchanan, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Buchanan made 37 appearances in total for Derby's first-team last term, as they narrowly avoided relegation into League One on the final day of the 2020/21 season.

He has been with the club since 2010, and has one year remaining on his current contract with Wayne Rooney's side, although it remains to be seen as to whether he'll see out that deal at Pride Park.

A move to the City Ground with Nottingham Forest could tempt Buchanan, with Chris Hughton's side looking to challenge higher up the second tier standings this term, after finishing 17th in the Championship table last season.

We take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Nottingham Forest if they were to strike a deal to sign Buchanan this summer.

Winner: Chris Hughton

The Nottingham Forest boss would be the winner from any potential agreement to sign Buchanan, as it would strengthen his options at full-back.

Tyler Blackett is set for a spell on the sidelines as he recovers from recent surgery, whilst Gaetan Bong has reportedly been told he can find another club this summer.

Therefore, Hughton is light on options heading into 2021/22 league campaign, and adding a player of Buchanan's potential to his ranks could turn out to be a solution in both the short-term and long-term moving forwards.

Loser: Jordan Gabriel

The Nottingham Forest full-back has already been linked with a summer departure from the City Ground, with both Blackpool and Sunderland both reportedly keen on signing the 22-year-old.

He spent last year's campaign on loan with the Tangerines, and played his part in the club's promotion-winning season, whilst under the management of Neil Critchley.

If Buchanan was to arrive, then you would imagine that it'll push Gabriel closer to a summer exit, as he'd fall further down the pecking order in Chris Hughton's plans heading into the 2021/22 Championship season, which gets underway in under a month's time.
