Leeds United midfielder Pablo Hernandez has revealed he is willing to start every game for the Whites if the club wants him to do so.

The Spanish midfielder has recently signed a contract extension, which keeps him at the club for an extra two years, with his deal now running until the summer of 2022.

The contract will keep Hernandez at the club until he reaches his 37th birthday and while that might seem daunting for the player, he has outlined that he is more than willing to play every game from now for the Whites.

Speaking to the club’s official website following the new deal, Hernandez commented on his current fitness situation, where he said: "For a player, the worst moment is when you have been injured.

"I was out for six weeks but now I am back with the team and I have been able to play some minutes in the last two games. Now I am ready to continue helping the team.

"I am ready to play every game and hopefully I can play in the next game to help the team win three points."

Hernandez was sidelined for a lengthy period recently with muscular injuries that had kept him out of the squad since the 1-1 draw at home to Derby back in mid-September.

With his imminent return and confidence over his own fitness, it would surely indicate that he is pushing to start against Luton Town on Saturday.

Here, we take a look at one winner and one loser as Hernandez looks to start every game…

Winner: Leeds United

Leeds are the obvious winners in this situation because it’s a massive boost to hear one of the key players saying that he wants to play every minute of every game if he has to, despite the fact he turns 35 in April.

Ever since signing, Hernandez has been a crucial part of Leeds’ team and this hasn’t changed with age, so to have him back is a huge boost heading into the festive period for Leeds.

A lot of players at his age might struggle to fully recover from an injury lay-off of that extent at that age, but he has shown great determination to come back and the club clearly see Hernandez as someone who can perform for longer than just this season with the new contract.

Loser: Helder Costa

Since signing in the summer from Wolves, Helder Costa was expected to become a player who can achieve the same creative feats that Hernandez has on the field at Leeds, helping spread the burden across the team rather than relying on just the Spaniard each week.

However, with Hernandez’s injury came the chance for Costa to prove just what he can do, which he hasn’t really done. Costa has started every game since Hernandez’s injury against Derby but is yet to show why Leeds forked out a reported £15million for him.

This season in the league, Costa has registered just one assist and is yet to score, while Jack Harrison on the other wing has contributed to seven of Leeds’ last eight goals, further showing his lack of impact.

Now that Hernandez is seemingly fully fit, it will be time for Costa to take his place back on the bench to make an impact as a substitute, where he has to work hard to prove he deserves another chance in the lineup.
