Aston Villa have completed the impressive signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Kortney Hause.

The 23-year-old arrives at Villa Park initially on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the Villans having the option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.

The England under-21 international has fallen massively out of favour at Molineux, and will be hungry to prove a point and earn regular game-time after making just two appearances for Wolves this season, both of which came in the Carabao Cup.

It's a very welcome addition for Dean Smith's men - there can be no denying that Villa are desperate for defensive reinforcements, having conceded a woeful 40 goals in the Championship this season, which has ultimately led to them slipping away from the play-off places.

Here, we take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser at Aston Villa, as Smith secures a very important signing...

Ultimately, the winner here is Dean Smith.

His attacking brand of football is working wonders at Villa Park, with the likes of Jack Grealish, Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi all flourishing under the former Brentford boss' management.

But simply what is the point in perfecting this attacking brand of football if they cannot defend?

If Hause can help sort their defensive issues out, then Villa will undoubtedly improve, and Smith will reap the benefits.

With Hause signing for Villa and Axel Tuanzebe and James Chester forging a great understanding at the back, where does this latest transfer now leave Tommy Elphick?

The latter was recalled from his impressive loan spell at Hull City, with many suggesting that the experienced defender could now emerge as a first-team regular under Smith.

But with younger and arguably better competition in Hause now emerging, time is running out for Elphick.
