Preston North End confirmed yesterday that Andre Green had been recalled to Aston Villa, with the Premier League outfit instantly sending the winger back into the Championship, this time with Charlton Athletic.

Green was part of the Villa squad that won promotion back to the Premier League last season, but Dean Smith didn’t see the winger as part of his plans for 2019/20 and sent him to Deepdale.

Ultimately, that is a move that hasn’t worked out for Green or Preston, with the 21-year-old failing to start a Championship fixture and playing only six times across all competitions, scoring one goal.

It has been confirmed he will spend the rest of the season on loan with Charlton, with Lee Bowyer the man tasked with overseeing the development of the winger.

After Preston lose out in this Championship reshuffle, we break down the winners and losers…

Winner: Andre Green

Green is a winger with great potential, but he really needs some consistent game time to become the player he wants to be.

He wasn’t getting that at Preston, but he might well get that in a different environment under Bowyer.

It is likely that Charlton will have promised Villa and Green a fairer chance of game time, which is great news for the latter in particular.

Loser: Alex Neil

Admittedly, Neil wasn’t playing Green, so you could argue that he will just shrug off this loss.

However, it still weakens his hand and forces him into a January reshuffle this month.

A replacement will be needed for Preston, but it has to be the right man, with the Lilywhites looking to stay within touching distance of the play-off places.
