Pablo Hernandez committed his future to Leeds United earlier this week, signing a deal that will run until the summer of 2022.

Leeds have had the luxury of having Hernandez as part of their squad since 2016, with the playmaker going on to make 132 appearances for the Whites, scoring 29 goals in the process.

12 of those goals came last season, with the 34-year-old also registering 12 assists, with his influence as apparent as ever, despite being the eldest member of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

And, Leeds have rewarded that with a contract that could potentially take him into a sixth season at Elland Road.

Of course, there are winners and losers in the wake of this news, and we attempt to pick them out here…

Winner: Patrick Bamford

Hernandez sticking around for another two years benefits so many people; Marcelo Bielsa, Carlos Corberan and his academy, the fans and a number of his teammates.

However, we are signalling out Patrick Bamford, the man currently leading the line for Leeds.

Yes, he misses chances he should score, but with Hernandez consistently putting the ball on a plate for him, he’s going to score more goals for Leeds United.

Loser: Helder Costa

You’ve got to back Costa to come good at Leeds eventually. He’s showing some good signs at the moment, but we all know he is capable of absolutely tearing it up in the Championship.

However, many see him as the successor to Hernandez down the right, so where does it leave him with Hernandez sticking around?

That remains to be seen, but on the face of this deal, he looks the most obvious loser in a squad that will undoubtedly be buzzing Hernandez is still around.
