Leeds United narrowly beat Barnsley at Elland Road yesterday to move within a point of automatic promotion and many Whites fans have heaped praise on Tykes boss Gerhard Struber after the game.

Marcelo Bielsa's side headed into the game knowing that four points from their last three games would guarantee them a top-two finish and though they secured three of them yesterday, it was far from easy.

Bottom-of-the-table Barnsley are battling for their Championship survival and produced a spirited display, laying siege to Illan Meslier's goal after the break.

Despite having double the number of shots of Leeds, the Tykes were unable to find a breakthrough meaning that Michael Sollbauer's 28th-minute own-goal, which came from a dangerous cross from Patrick Bamford, proved decisive.

Struber, who took charge of Barnsley in November, heaped praise on Bielsa and his team after the game.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, he said: "Leeds have done a brilliant job this year and he is a big, big coach with huge experience but this is not helpful for me at all.

"For me, it's more a disappointing moment.

"We played well but without benefitting here."

The Austrian coach has done a fantastic job since taking charge at Oakwell – in fact, Barnsley are 15th in the table in terms of results since Struber's arrival.
