Lynden Gooch scored a sensational goal yesterday to put his Sunderland side back in a game they needed to win.

Trailing from an early Accrington strike, the Black Cats needed a response. Despite showing good form in the league, a 3-0 defeat at Peterborough piled pressure on Jack Ross and another defeat would have meant more trouble on the horizon.

Gooch had the perfect answer, a stunning volley from Denver Hume's cross to give his side parity. Further first half strikes from Aiden McGeady and Marc McNulty ensured all three points went back to Wearside.

Gooch took a lot of criticism from supporters last season, left on the bench as an injured McGeady hoped to pull them into the automatic promotion spots. He's responded with some fine outings this season, capped off by yesterday's goal.

His efforts haven't gone unnoticed by these supporters, who were quick to go to twitter and praise the 23-year-old, not just for his strike but also his all-round performance.
