Cardiff City fought from two goals down to secure a point at Reading on Monday evening, with late goals from Joe Bennett and Lee Tomlin ensuring the spoils were shared at The Madejski Stadium.

A Callum Paterson own goal and a Mo Barrow strike had put the hosts firmly in control on a bitterly cold night in Berkshire, with Jaap Stam’s side holding a well-deserved two-nil lead at the break.

Defender Bennett’s beautiful volley halved the deficit in the 83rd minute, before Lee Tomlin levelled things up, but only with the help of goal-line technology.

The result leaves Cardiff just four points behind league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers, who themselves were held to a disappointing draw on Saturday afternoon by strugglers Sunderland.

Tomlin had struggled for game time in recent months, with many citing his fitness as the reason behind his exclusion from the squad, but following his goal, it is hoped the former Bristol City man will begin to break into the first-team on a more regular basis.

The forward celebrated his goal on Twitter, with fans quick to praise the controversial figure for his input on the game…
