Brentford have been active in the transfer window this summer, adding five new faces to Thomas Frank's squad already.

The majority of their business has been focussed on defensive areas, with centre-backs Pontus Jansson and Ethan Pinnock, defensive midfielder Christian Norgaard, and goalkeeper David Raya having all arrived at Griffin Park.

It appears that their sixth summer signing could be an attacking reinforcement, as the Bees have made a club-record bid for Troyes forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to L'Equipe.

The 19-year-old scored understood that the London club have made an offer of €6.5 million (£5.8 million) for the forward.

Our FLW writers discuss whether signing Mbeumo would be good business for Brentford...

Sam Rourke

"You have to trust Brentford on this one.

"The Bees seem to know what they're doing in the transfer market, and time after time we see them pluck unknown quantities from across Europe and turn them into multi-million-pound assets.

"Mbuemo looks a promising young striker and to score 11 goals last season in Ligue 2 considering his age, is an impressive feat.

"I was sceptical about the Neal Maupay signing initially, but that turned out alright, didn't it?

"With this being a potential club-record signing, there is definitely an element of risk to it, but the West London club just seem to always get it right.

"It'll be interesting to see how this plays out"

Jacob Potter

"It’s always a risk signing a player that hasn’t got experience of playing in English football.

"Mbeumo scored ten league goals last season and looked impressive in his breakthrough season in professional football.

"But if you’re looking to find a player that is going to fill the sizeable void left by Maupay, then I’m not sure Mbeumo is the man to do it.

"There are better options out there for Brentford, and if they’re looking at paying the reported fee, then it’s a risky move that could backfire for the Bees next term.

"I’m really not convinced he’s the man to score the goals to fire them into the top six."

Josh Cole

“This could turn out to be an incredibly shrewd move by Brentford if Frank can get a deal over the line between now and August 8th.

“Mbeumo is unquestionably one of the most exciting talents in French football following his performances for Ligue 2 side Troyes during the previous campaign. He illustrated a great deal of promise, which if replicated in the Championship next season could help the Bees reach new heights.

“Having benefited before from plucking Maupay from obscurity in 2017, there is no reason why the 19-year-old cannot follow in the Bees forward’s footsteps by becoming a mainstay in Frank’s side, fighting off competition from Sergi Canos for the position.

"Although predominately a right-midfielder, Mbeumo can also operate as a centre-forward if called upon to do so and thus would offer Brentford a great deal of versatility which could come in handy over the next 10 months."
