Sheffield United currently sit second in the Championship standings as they continue their push for automatic promotion from the second tier.

Having to contend with several injuries to key personnel during the early parts of the campaign, Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom has certainly been tested.

With the January transfer window now just a month away, it remains to be seen how busy it will be for Heckingbottom and Co. especially with promotion back to the Premier League a real possibility.

Sharing his thoughts on how busy he expects the Blades to be when January comes around, Pete O'Rourke told Football League World: "Yeah, I expect Sheffield United to be one of the busier clubs in the January transfer window.

"They obviously had a lot of injury problems earlier in the season. It's good news for Paul Heckingbottom that a number of those players are now back and fit but I'm sure he'll be looking to add to the squad to ensure that they can survive any more injuries that might hit the squad as they continue their push for promotion in the second half of the season.

"Again a lot of question marks might surround the future of Sander Berge in the January transfer window and if he was to be sold, I'm sure Heckingbottom will be looking for some funds to be made available to bring in some replacements and to improve his squad at Bramall Lane."

The verdict

Considering the sheer number of injuries Sheffield United have suffered during the first part of the season, Heckingbottom has done an excellent job thus far.

However, it has provided an indication that they may need to add more depth to contend with the injury issues they have picked up.

Of course, Sheffield United do have the quality within the squad to secure a return back to the Premier League, whilst they also have excellent pulling power.

January is a big month for the Blades as they will be wanting to not just add for the immediate future, but also with the possibility of Premier League football in mind.
