It has been an extremely busy transfer window for Cardiff City so far this summer.

At the time of writing, the club have brought in 13 new arrivals to the Cardiff City Stadium, with loan deals and free transfers being heavily utilised.

As such, it will be interesting to see how things shape up on Saturday afternoon, when the club get their 2022/23 Championship campaign underway.

It is a tough test in Norwich City up first for the Bluebirds, but, it will be in front of their own fans at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Despite the vast number of new additions, one area that still needs strengthening is the forward position.

At present, Max Watters looks the most likely to lead the line for Steve Morison’s side, and as such, we asked FLW’s Cardiff City fan pundit Ben Johnsey for his thoughts on whether or not he should start versus the Canaries.

“I would start Max Watters on Saturday.” Ben told FLW.

“I think he’s had the entirety of pre-season, and he’s done well in pre-season, scored three goals in four games. That was against League One and League Two opposition, though.

25 questions about Cardiff City’s most unforgettable moments in their history – Can you get 100% correct?

In the club's 3-2 defeat to Blackpool in the Championship play-off final in 2009/10, who started in goal?

“He’s looked one of our brightest sparks, not just the goals, but his build up play. His hold up play has massively improved compared to what we saw in the seasons gone by and he’s really looking to be at the top of his confidence right now and I think he deserves to start on Saturday.

“It is hopeful that Cardiff look to bring in another striker before Saturday, or at least before the deadline and even if they do, I think Max Watters deserves to start that game on Saturday and have his chance as his confidence is currently on a high.”

Cardiff City vs Norwich City is set for a 3PM kick-off on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

There is no doubt that this area needs strengthening before the end of the transfer window.

At present, though, Max Watters is the clear stand out to lead the line for Cardiff City on Saturday.

He has been performing well in pre-season, as our fan pundit explains, and even though they are only friendly matches, seeing the ball hit the back of the net will only breed confidence.

If he isn’t going to get a chance under the current circumstances, he never will.

It’s a tough test up first for the Bluebirds, but I would back Watters to get the start, and, keep his place unless a really quality number nine arrives in the Welsh captial.
