Sheffield United have had a remarkable season where they achieved promotion to the Premier League despite all the odds stacked up against them.

Chris Wilder’s men entered the season with little expectation of challenging the top two, with a top six push probably their realistic target before a ball was kicked.

The Blades have defied that though, and fended off challenges from an exciting Leeds side, confirming their place in the 2019/20 Premier League, their first season there for over a decade.

Over the course of the season, Blades have had a huge amount of heroes, but also a couple of players who haven’t quite lived up to the billing and were not fit for service in Chris Wilder’s side.

Here, we choose one hero and one villain from their 2018/19 season - one player who has excelled, one not so much.

Do you agree, or have we missed a hero or villain from our selection? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hero: Billy Sharp

Chris Wilder and Billy Sharp led most of the chants as Sheffield United’s bus paraded through the streets of Sheffield, with both being etched in Blades history as modern day legends.

Billy Sharp was talked about as a potential departure this time last year, with the likes of Sunderland interested, but how glad he will be that he stayed - the hero of Bramall Lane.

Villain: Ben Woodburn

With all the heroes this season it is so hard to pick a villain, so we’ve gone with Ben Woodburn.

The Welshman promised so much but failed to deliver at the Lane, meaning his loan was cut short.

In his defence, Wilder’s system didn’t give him much chance.
