Ten seasons ago, Bristol City were just languishing in the mid-table depths of the Championship, competing under Gary Johnson, whose son Lee is now at the helm in Bristol.

One of City's main stars that season was defensive midfielder Cole Skuse, having rose up through the academy and was awarded the 2009-2010 player of the season award at Ashton Gate. Having departed City in 2013 though, we take a look at where Cole Skuse ended up and how he has fared since....

Skuse progressed through the youth setup with Bristol City and made his debut for his boyhood club as a substitute away to Colchester United on 19th February 2005, going on to appear six more times that season.

Skuse then became a regular in 2005-2006, making 41 appearances in all competitions and the following season, appeared 52 times for his boyhood club, as Reading was linked with the player but Johnson quickly rubbished the claims amid Bristol City being promoted into the Championship as runners-up.

Skuse took to Championship life well, despite only making 26 appearances throughout 2007-2008, and was awarded the club's player of the season award in 2009-2010 as he made 47 appearances and scored two goals.

In 2011-2012, Skuse was moved to the right-back position under new manager Derek McInnes, from which the defensive minded player turned out 38 times and scored twice, including the goal which kept City in the Championship with a 2-0 win against Barnsley.

After the 2012-2013 season, Skuse was released from his contract at Bristol City having made 307 appearances and scoring nine goals in the red shirt.

Skuse then travelled to the opposite side of the country and signed a three-year deal with Ipswich Town,  also in the Championship. Skuse became an integral part of the midfield at Portman Road, making 44 appearances during his first campaign there.

Skuse netted his first goal for the side on 14th April 2015 against Cardiff City, a strike which earned him the 2014-2015 goal of the season with Ipswich. That same season, Skuse played a pivotal role as Ipswich finished in sixth place and qualified for the Championship playoffs, but were knocked out at the first hurdle by their biggest rivals Norwich City in the playoffs.

Continuing to be an Ipswich regular for the past few seasons, Skuse suffered relegation to League One with Ipswich in 2019 but has continued to be a mainstay in their midfield.

Entering his twilight years and his Ipswich contract expiring next year, Skuse has a big season ahead of him as he looks to have one last hurrah left in his career, most likely with Ipswich.
