Scott Hogan has claimed that he would be 'happy to join' Stoke City on a permanent deal having had a fine start to his loan move at the club.

The striker opened his account for the Potters on Saturday and is eager to make his mark at the club. He has good relationships with many of the Stoke players from the Republic of Ireland national side as well as Lee Gregory after they played with each other at Halifax.

Hogan had a torrid time at parent club Aston Villa where he could never get going after signing from Brentford.

Speaking to Stoke on Trent Live, on being asked about joining permanently, Hogan said: “Yes, hopefully, if all fits. I was happy to come here, fitted in well and know a lot of the lads from the national team as well.

“It all depends on having a good season, but that’s what I plan on doing.

“My confidence got knocked at Aston Villa. I had a couple of injuries. It wasn’t going well. I just didn’t fit in.

“I tried over the two years I was there. I tried everything. Sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up and I needed a fresh start."

The Verdict

Scott Hogan has finally got out of his torrid spell of football at Aston Villa and gladly so. The striker was one of the best forwards in the Championship whilst at Brentford and if he can regain that form back then he'll be a great signing for Stoke.

He has his sights set on a permanent move which is promising. The only worry with that is if he has a successful season and scores over 15 goals, then other clubs may start to come in for the forward. Hogan needs to become settled again, and he must keep that in mind when deciding on a permanent move.

After his first goal of the season against Derby, he'll be hoping that he can continue scoring when the Potters face a tough trip to Preston on Wednesday.
