Brentford waltzed into South Yorkshire yesterday and took all three points from Oakwell, as they saw off Barnsley with relative ease.

The Bees were the better team throughout the 90 minutes and walked away with a much needed away win to give Thomas Frank a big boost early on in the season.

However, there was no question who the star of the show was for the Bees, as Ollie Watkins helped himself to a hat-trick as he continued to build a fine reputation for himself as one of the finest strikers outside of the Premier League.

Watkins' three goals made it seven for the season in just nine appearances, and while his finishing was on point, he showed more to his game than just simply putting the ball in the back of the net.

The forward's constant movement across the front line caused all manner of problems for Barnsley throughout the game, while his positional awareness, speed of thought and then clinical nature, ensured it was the complete all-round performance for the Brentford man.

Indeed, Watkins is not doing anything we haven't become accustomed to seeing in recent years, only in the fact that he looks to have improved even further on his impressive displays which saw him fire in ten goals last season.

Being just three shy of that with only nine games played means Watkins has clearly got his eye on the prize this year, however, with good form will come interest, and January will soon be upon us.

Premier League scouts will be out in force in the winter looking for players in the Championship who can make a difference to teams in the top flight, and on current form, Watkins is going to be one of the players who is right at the head of scouting reports.

Brentford can't really afford to lose Watkins, but he'll want to challenge himself at the highest level. If clubs in the lower echelons of the Premier League do come sniffing in January, then Watkins could well find it an opportunity too good to pass up.
